October 9th – October 23rd 2010
Opening: Saturday October 9th, 6.30 pm
Galleria Paola Verrengia for the VI Giornata del Contemporaneo promoted by AMACI-(Association of the Italian Contemporary Art Museums) will present on Saturday, October 9th 2010 at 6,30 pm the exhibition entitled Love Pharmacy, with performance, video and drawings by two young artists, the Spanish Violeta Caldrés and the Italian Giulia Palombino.
Love Pharmacy incorporates the two projects Love Rehab by Giulia Palombino and Amorflu by Violeta Caldrés, whose common subject is love: a feeling that in Giulia Palombino becomes an insane but amusing obsession until it turns into dependency, while in Violeta Caldrés turns into a possible cure or medication against all the evils of contemporary society.
Love Rehab ironically refers to the “Rehab Centers” (clinics for detoxification and rehabilitation) where VIPS go to get cleaned up from various types of addictions and obsessions: alcohol, drugs, sex. In this case the dependency to get rid of paradoxically becomes love.
In Amorflu love, from an idealized, ethereal and immutable feeling, turns into merchandise and medication: a happiness pill that anyone can find at the pharmacy… but only at post-modern pharmacies. Boxes of Amorflu, “extraordinary” cure against all the evils that affect society will be offered by the Spanish artist during her performance at the gallery.
Giulia Palombino (Caserta, Italia, 1985) lives and works in Berlin. After she attended the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art of London, she participated in numerous events and exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
Violeta Caldrés (Valencia, Spagna, 1983) lives and works between Tenerife and Madrid. She graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts of Salamanca and participated in numerous contests and international exhibitions.
For the Giornata del Contemporaneo promoted by AMACI, in Salerno a series of events will be specifically organized: the Soprintendenza B.S.A.E. will present the catalogue “Ortus Artis Fresco Bosco”, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva (Palazzo Sant’Agostino – 11:30 am). The path will continue in the spaces of the Galleria Paola Verrengia with “Love Pharmacy” (Via Fieravecchia – ore 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm) and will end with “La mostra è aperta. Artisti in dialogo con Harald Szeemann” curated by Stefania Zuliani and organized by the Fondazione Filiberto Menna (Complesso di Santa Sofia, Largo Abate Conforti – ore 20:30).
